Our approach
Microalgae are photosynthetic microorganisms, mostly single-celled, able to turn light, water and carbon dioxide into biomass rich in proteins, pigments and bioactive compounds. On that biological foundation we build applied science work: understanding, cultivating and characterising microalgae to open up real applications.
We are defined by the path that goes from the lab to the industry: we start from scientific knowledge about microalgae and move towards scalable, reproducible processes. We keep a standard of rigour and verifiability in everything we communicate.
What defines us
Applied science
We work on the biology of microalgae —photosynthesis, cell growth and bioactive composition— to take that knowledge from the lab to processes useful for the industry.
Freshwater microalgae
Our focus is freshwater unicellular microalgae, such as Chlorella, Scenedesmus or the cyanobacterium Spirulina. Unlike marine ones, they do not add salt to the medium.
Dual base, Córdoba and Europe
We operate with a dual base between Córdoba (Argentina) and Europe, connecting scientific development with industrial reach across different production contexts.
From the lab to the industry
Cultivation, characterisation and application of microalgal biomass: a path that starts in research and moves towards scalable, reproducible solutions.
Scientific approach
Microalgae cultivation depends on controlling light, temperature, carbon dioxide and nutrients —mainly nitrogen and phosphorus—. Their mostly asexual reproduction allows the population to multiply within a few days under optimal conditions, which makes them an agile production platform.
Freshwater microalgae, which do not add salt to the medium, are especially interesting for various industrial and agricultural applications. To go deeper into the biology and the species, you can visit our microalgae knowledge centre.
What are microalgae? →Dual base: Córdoba and Europe
ALGACEL operates with a dual base between Córdoba (Argentina) and Europe. This presence in two production contexts lets us connect scientific development with its industrial reach, bringing microalgae biotechnology closer to different markets and application environments.
